Well, I got an iPhone 3G, and it seems I might have been the only one! I braved an extremely early morning and the bewildered stares of the morning commuters to stand in line at the Carphone Warehouse near work and pick one up. Shamefully I was first in line. There was quite a queue in the end and I left with my new phone just before the manager was about to explain to many of the customers that they wouldn’t be getting one. Apparently the store only had 10 phones. I think I left just in time, it was about to turn ugly.

Even people who were told they had one coming from O2 via courier as part of Monday’s preorder pantomime didn’t all actually get a phone in the end. Overall I think the launch was a bit of a mess. To top it all off , the credit check facilities crashed too which led to an anxious wait in line while I tried to wrack my brains and work out if I had made any reckless spending decisions recently…

Well, it all turned out OK, and I was only 10 minutes late for work. Early impressions are good, I’m having fun with it so far, but I’m off for a week’s holiday in Cornwall, so it will be getting an extensive field test. I’ll have a stab at a review when I get back…

very nice. I think I’m going to wait until all the kinks are ironed out of this mess. Not only with the iPhone but with the MobileMe service. (I hate that name by the way.) But the website looks great. Are you done?

Take Care.

Well the phone is great, I don’t think there will be any major hardware changes for a year or so, only greater capacity. I wouldn’t be surprised if a 32Gb came out for Christmas for example. The only things that are less than perfect are the camera and the battery, both of which could be made a lot better through software development. Other than that everything else is software, the MMS, the copy and paste etc can all come our way at some point, it won’t matter what phone you have. When I get some time I’m going to do a review of the iPhone properly so keep your eyes peeled for that.

MobileMe is disappointing though, if they haven’t addressed some of it’s shortcomings before my 60 day trial ends I can’t see me paying for it. A shame, it could have been absolutely indispensable…

As for this site, I’m oh so very nearly finished, but not quite. Got some nice new work to upload soon too. It doesn’t work very well on an iPhone actually, but I have, however done a home screen icon!
