New Year’s Resolutions

So I guess it’s customary to write about my new year’s resolutions for 2008 before too much of January passes me by. Here they are…

1. Do Great Work
Has to be on every designer’s list doesn’t it? Every year! This year though in particular I’m up for doing new things and adding work to my portfolio which shows how far I’ve come after the last couple of years.

2. Get back into learning Japanese
I took a Japanese course for two years and even managed to pass my JLPT exam, which means that I have a piece of paper to prove it. Shortly after this, the pressures of work meant I had to call time on my evening class and I haven’t kept up with the reading since. This year I’m going to make a concerted effort to get myself back into it and if I can build up my confidence again I might sign up to a new course to see if I can pass that next exam.

3. Stop starting videogames before I’ve finished the last one
I’m a bit of a sucker for some gaming action, and even more of a sucker for a retro bargain in Gamestation or on eBay. The consequence is that I now have quite a sizable collection of titles that I haven’t played past the first few hours. I bought myself a 60Gb PS3 at the end of last year which runs my old PlayStation games, so I’m going to turn back to some of those between the new costly releases. Must finish Half Life before I can start Half Life 2…

4. Develop this site
I’ve got some exciting ideas for new content on this site so keep visiting…

5. Buy an iPhone
It’s my birthday in June and I’m hoping Steve Jobs will finally have a 3G iPhone with my name on it…

6. Do something with my daily commute
I spend up to 3 hours a day on the tube going to and from work, so rather than reading the Metro I might widen my reading, catch up on some retro gaming or bone up on my Japanese. Basically try not to let the tube coma wash over me, 3 hours a day is a lot of time to waste inhabiting someone else’s armpit.

7. Go somewhere new
Prague? Moscow? LA? New Zealand? Tokyo? not sure yet…

8. Get on the property ladder
Sigh.

I’ll probably think of more as soon as I’ve pressed the publish button…
