Toast wrecks lives

I work at a large design company in London, and they very nicely provide bread and various spreads, Dorset Cereals etc for people to have breakfast when they get to work. This is very nice of them, except that it has had an unforeseen consequence…

…specifically the lost productivity which results from the fire brigade being called out twice in the space of a couple of weeks due to bread being left in the toaster too long. Now we all know that toast is a delicious and wholesome snack, but it has a sting in its tale, it can cost a branding agency million$.

I’m a big believer in design being able to solve most problems, so I’ve made a little modification to the toaster. Let’s see if it works. If it does, I think they owe me a pay rise…

very nice. So who’s the “fire guy” anyways?

Richard

I’m not sure, it goes like this: Someone smells toast burning, the alarm goes off, we all wait a few moments to see if it’s a joke, we realise it’s not, we begrudgingly get up and walk outside, we stand around for 20 minutes, we go back inside, we carry one none the wiser…

sounds suspicious to me.

I can report that the fire brigade were called out again yesterday, we spent a good 10 minutes out in the cold and when we went back inside all of the toasters have been confiscated.
