Do typefaces matter?

The BBC are randomly asking today Do typefaces really matter?

It all stems from James Cameron’s controversial use of Papyrus in Avatar, before Bruno Maag dives in and aims a punch at Helvetica.

Still, I guess we should be glad Comic Sans didn’t turn up.

Incidentally, the article is worth checking out if you’re one of those people who is still unclear as to the difference between a font and a typeface…

Save 6music

Along with a lot of other right-thinking people, I was really sad to hear the BBC were planning to close down digital station 6music. Almost as importantly as the end of the Adam & Joe show, it will mean I won’t have a use for this sketch I did a while ago.

The 6 was always aching to be a pair of headphones, and most of the other stations have a small intervention to the number to indicate their content.

If you want to try and change the BBC’s mind, there’s a protest tomorrow in London, apparently if enough people turn up they will consider a reprieve.

And if that happens, I’m happy to develop the logo for the relaunch.

Logopolis

There’s a new Doctor Who logo. Some people don’t like it. I do.

Doctor Who intro logo

In fact it’s closest really to the very first logo, from the William Hartnell era, let’s hope the Radiophonic Workshop theme tune comes back too…

Doctor Who logos through the years

…and if it’s possible look past the Photoshop lens flare and the MASSIVE letter W, it has a quite old fashioned quirky silhouette. I’m not convinced by the need for a TARDIS symbol, but hey. It looks like there’ll be a whole new dark and vintage feel to the new show’s identity in 2010.

Be afraid

Even Jeremy is terrified.

How do you doodle?

Good news for anyone who has ever employed me! It turns out I was paying attention all the time…

The appropriately named Jon Brain reports for the BBC that companies should actually be encouraging their employees to draw in meetings. Watch the evidence here…

Formula One 2009

The new Formula one season kicks off on the 28th March, and this year there are a lot of changes. This pretty slick video outlines the main ones, courtesy of Sebastien Vettel, Red Bull and a hefty helping of lovely CGI graphics.

Impressive, but of course, every UK F1 fan is waiting for the return of the Fleetwood Mac theme tune now it’s back on the BBC…

Sorry Jamiroquai, but it’s still the best.
