Walkman and iPod sitting in a tree…

Sony Walkman iPod disguise

I’d love one of these iPod cases. As usual, you can’t buy them, but it can’t be too hard to make one – first stop eBay. Shame to break such a lovely retro Walkman though…

Via ffffound, which came via ipodhacks, which came from apple-touch, which came from gearfuse, which came from dvice, which came from gadgetvenue, which seems to have come from sirljohn’s flickr stream. Thought I’d post all the links, I had to follow the trail to the end, kind of like finding one end of a piece of string…

iDidn’t Look Both Ways…

iDead

Thought this ad from the New South Wales police was quite funny. I guess that’s not really the point though…

It’s still a more dignified death than being run over by a 1970′s family saloon…

The Microsoft iPod

I just had this video sent to me and it made me smile. It’s funny ’cause it’s true, but I think the music is definitely a contributing factor to the comedy.

For the sake of fairness, I thought I should point out that Microsoft DOES make an iPod, it’s called the Zune. Here’s what the two box designs look like next to each other…

iPod vs Zune

So, apart from the strange fascination with brown, it isn’t all that bad. Of course there may well be a PowerPoint-bulletpoint-lifestyle-fest going on on the reverse. It’s interesting that it isn’t as product-centric as the iPod packaging, although perhaps it’s to be expected, the Zune is hardly going to win in the product design stakes against the effortlessly iconic iPod.

One thing I have to admit that I like is the logo:

Zune Logo

Lovely.

The Beat Goes On… New iPods

New iPods

Apple have just revamped their iPod lineup as has been widely expected. The brand new nano does video and cover flow, while the classic iPods have seen a change in styling as well as increased capacity.

The real news though, is the iPod touch, basically an iPhone without the phone, and it looks lovely. Running OSX lite just like the iPhone it has wifi for browsing and purchasing from the iTunes store, and somewhat suprisingly Safari. This means it is a fully featured web browser, which I guess is needed in order to allow people to actually login to wireless networks at all, but it brings the whole web to your iPod which is just amazing. Apple have interestingly decided to reserve email capability for the iPhone for now though…

I’m particularly happy to see the iPhone price drop, as I’m now almost delirious to get one. Maybe we’ll see a 3G model in Europe at the old price point…?
