Logopolis

newdwlogo

There’s a new Doctor Who logo. Some people don’t like it. I do.

It’s a hell of a lot better than the awful eye of Sauron London taxi logo we’ve had since the show came back…

Doctor Who intro logo

In fact it’s closest really to the very first logo, from the William Hartnell era, let’s hope the Radiophonic Workshop theme tune comes back too…

Doctor Who logos through the years

…and if it’s possible look past the Photoshop lens flare and the MASSIVE letter W, it has a quite old fashioned quirky silhouette. I’m not convinced by the need for a TARDIS symbol, but hey. It looks like there’ll be a whole new dark and vintage feel to the new show’s identity in 2010.

Globo Logo

I don’t really know exactly what this is but I like it.

In defence of Pepsi

Coca-Cola redesigned their packaging a little while ago. I thought it was great, they got rid of all the Photoshopped moisture beads etc and just went back to something classic, simple and clean. Less is more and all that. Well, now Pepsi has fired a return shot in the new Cola design war, but they’ve gone the whole hog, they’ve redone their logo too.

Bunch of books

Friday was the launch of Bastardised, the book based culmination of Bunch Design’s Made in Bunch identity project. I sent in an idea a while back and heard recently that I might have made the cut so I went along to find out.

Well, it turns out I did, and I found my entry on page 136 which won me a free copy and a souvenir badge.

3M

Loved this, it’s by artist Nic Hess and reminded me of the logo arithmetic I blogged about a while ago, although it’s obviously far nicer. It’s yours for a little under £15,000.

Thanks to Afonso for the link.

Mito at The Motor Show

Mito Front

Went along to The Motor Show at ExCel on Friday and got a look in person at the new Alfa Romeo Mito which was having it’s World Premiere. The lady guarding the hospitality bar took a little convincing that a toothy long haired bloke from the Midlands might actually have designed the logo, but eventually we talked our way in and enjoyed a beer.

Mito Floor Logo

The car itself was quite impressive, small but I liked it a lot. Of course, it was helped immeasurably by the lovely logo adorning the rear. It looked great, a little over polished perhaps but I was really pleased with the result. No amount of mocking it up in Photoshop can prepare you for seeing something like this in real life. Not only that, but it was one of the stars of the show and was getting a lot of interest. (I am prepared to conceed that this might not have been totally down to the logo)

Mito Badge

More soon, but in the meantime there are some additional pictures here…
